Hit the Road with Your GMC Truck and Trailer Using Multi-Camera View
Towing large quantities may be hard and pulling a trailer will require certain skills from every truck owner. Even the most experienced drivers will tell you there’s more to it than just driving and hitting the highway! That is why the GMC manufacturer offers not just serious pulling power in a premium pickup, but available technologies to make the towing experience effortless. One of these thoughtful approaches is the GMC trailer camera.
Does GMC have trailer assist?
New models for GMC vehicles have trailer assists through camera views. These trailer cameras prove easier driving for towing and provide a safer way for drivers to hit the road without looking back behind them once in a while.
How does the GMC trailer camera work?
There are many ways to use a camera in any vehicle but some of the newest trucks have up to 15 different camera views that a driver can do. You can also see some of these GMC trailer cameras in other vehicles, such as Dodge Ram. Here are the fifteen different camera views listed by the GMC manufacturer’s website:
1. Usual Camera View
- Standard Rear Camera View.
- Front Camera View.
- Front Side View.
- Rear Camera Mirror. A dual-function mirror is used as a conventional rearview mirror or as a camera-based rearview mirror to help drivers see around potential view obstructions. Compared with a traditional inside rearview mirror, this rearview mirror display provides a wider, less obstructed field of view. This is in order to assist when driving, changing lanes, and checking for vehicles and traffic conditions. It offers zoom and vertical tilt driver adjustments.
- Rear Side View. Provides a split view of the left and right sides of the truck and trailer that is automatically biased based on the trailer’s angle. In the 2021 GMC Sierra, drivers will now have access to this view while driving in reverse, making it easier to see surrounding vehicles and objects while positioning a trailer.
- Rear Trailer View. Features guidelines to assist when backing a trailer into place, and a trailer-angle indicator to show the relationship between the truck and trailer. Rear trailer view requires the customer-installed available GM auxiliary accessory camera.
- Inside Trailer View. This lets the driver monitor trailer contents or cargo using an auxiliary accessory camera (customer installed) that can be mounted within the trailer.
2. New Camera View
- Transparent Trailer View. This helps you virtually see through your connected, compatible trailer when your truck is properly equipped. The transparent trailer view is already present for newer models of Sierra 1500 and Ram trucks.
- Hitch Guidance with Hitch View. This displays a guideline on the Rear Vision Camera view when in reverse. It helps line up your hitch to your trailer and offers a close-up Hitch View. When driving with this trailer camera, Hitch Guidance with Hitch View allows you to briefly check your trailer using the Rear Vision Camera view.
- Bed View with Zoom and Hitch Guidance. This camera view provides a close-up view of the receiver hitch for proper alignment when connecting to a compatible trailer with a gooseneck or fifth-wheel trailer hitch. The view includes Hitch Guidance Lines to assist when backing the trailer into place. It also includes a trailer-angle indicator to show the relationship between the truck and trailer.
- Surround View. This camera view gives you a top-down bird’s-eye view of the truck’s surroundings.
- Front Top-Down View. This provides a top-down view of your hood, bumper, and front tires for precise maneuvering, especially when parking next to curbs.
- Rear Top-Down View. This shows the clearance between the truck bed and nearby objects.
- Bowl View. provides a rear-facing 3D surround view, giving you a sense of the height of objects surrounding the vehicle, useful for low-speed maneuvers while backing up.
- Picture-in-Picture Side View. This combines the rear side view with the rear trailer accessory camera view.
What is the GMC trailering package?
Not all car models have these types of camera views. As of now, GMC trailer cameras are the only ones with 15 different camera views, along with the Ram trucks.
